The Automotive Engineering course was first offered by UTM during the 1999/2000 session. The Automotive course is offered as a specialisation of Mechanical Engineering, covering the areas of automotive design, vehicle dynamic and structure, power and transmission (power train), vehicle aerodynamic, electronics, ergonomics, automotive material and production. Hence, graduates of this course would fulfill the need for engineers in the field of Mechanical Engineering as well as the automotive field specialisation.An automotive engineer will perform activities according to the job scope in the field of research, design, development and production of various types of heavy or light vehicles. In creating or producing the latest design for the proposed vehicle, they will utilise the knowledge learnt such as engine and transmission, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, analysis of vehicle structure, electronics and others. These will be undertaken based on quality assurance in order to fulfill the requirement of standards, performance and safety. Usually the automotive engineer works in the area of automotive design and production.
