Overview

Department of Biomedical Engineering, the University of Malaya is inviting applications for Joint PhD (UM-USyd) Positions. 


The University of Malaya is a public research university located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is the oldest and most esteemed university in Malaysia. The university’s name was abbreviated as Malaya during the pre-independence period.

Criteria

Applicant must meet all the below requirements

1. Malaysian citizen.


2. Undergraduate degree in Engineering with a minimum CGPA of 3.7/4.0 or equivalent; OR Masters by Research degree with a minimum undergraduate


CGPA of 3.5/4.0 or equivalent.


3. Able to commit full time without any part-time job.


4. Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

Preferred Discipline

  • Joint PhD (UM-USyd) position in image processing for quantification of right ventricular function

  • Joint PhD (UM-UNSW Sydney) position in integrative system modeling of right ventricular dysfunction

  • Joint PhD (UM-UNSW Sydney) position in signal processing/pattern recognition for telehealth monitoring

Amount Info

1. This project features collaboration with world-renowned clinical centers as well as research institutions in Australia (University of New South Wales & University of Sydney) and United Kingdom (Imperial College London). Therefore, candidates

have an abundance of opportunities to work in world renowned research institutions and industries during candidature and upon graduation.

2. Extensive research support from experienced researchers in University of Sydney, Asian Cardiac Engineering group (UM) and Graduate School of

Biomedical Engineering (UNSW), who have been working on related projects for several years.

3. Sponsored attachment (up to 18 months) in University of Sydney during the PhD candidature.

 

4. Clay graduation system (www.asiancardiac.org), proven to work effectively in postgraduate training, will be applied to ensure that the candidate could graduate on time. This involves effective supervision, overseas training, as well as coaching by a strong network of experienced academics, engineers, cardiac specialists, and first class research students.

Funding Arrangements:

1. Monthly salary of RM1800 – RM3000, depending on personal qualification.

2. 3 months probation period.

3. Duration of appointment: 3 years subjected to yearly contract renewal. Candidate is encouraged to apply for scholarships upon enrolment of study.
