Overview

The University of Tromsø is the largest research and educational institution in northern Norway. The main focus of the University’s activities is on the Auroral light research, Space science, Fishery science, Biotechnology, Linguistics, Multicultural societies, Saami culture, Telemedicine, epidemiology and a wide spectrum of Arctic research projects.


Applications are invited for one Doctoral Research Fellowship in Arctic Governance at the Department of Sociology, Political Science and Community Planning.

Criteria

Applicant must meet all the below requirements


  • The qualified candidate will have a master’s degree in political science with a B/B+ (North American grading system) or above average grade, or the same grades in another relevant social science.

  • The candidate must be proficient in English (excellent written and spoken skills). Ideally, the background of the candidate will be one or a combination of governance/security studies; international/regional governance; Arctic; legal reform; indigenous studies. The candidate will ideally have a command of the Russian language (fluent enough to read, write, and converse). This is not a firm requirement though Russian skills will be preferred.

  • Personal suitability will be emphasized.

Fellowship is awarded in Arctic Governance at the Department of Sociology, Political Science and Community Planning.

Amount Info

The normal period of employment is four years. The nominal length of the Ph.D. program is three years. The fourth year, distributed as 25 % of each year, is reserved for teaching or other academic duties within the university. The position will especially be assigned teaching duties within international relations/security studies/Arctic governance. Remuneration for the position of Ph.D. Candidate is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1017. A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.
