  • About 1000 pilots with commercial pilot license (CPL) are unemployed in the country today.
  • According to statistics released by the Department Civil Aviation (DCA), 2,292 qualified pilots graduated since 2005 but only 1,174 were able to find jobs.
  • Each pilot paid about RM200, 000 to pay for their training and unemployed pilots are now working part time just to pay the loan back.
  • This creates a long term negative impact as it is a waste of human resources.
  • This is due to the loss of momentum in the flight industry caused by the global economic recession.
  • The aviation industry was at its peak five years ago and aviation schools increased from three to eight by 2010.
  • The issue of pilot unemployment does not only happen in this country but also in India and a few European countries such as Spain. 5000 pilots in India are unemployed while 4000 pilots in Spain shared the same fate.
