Proficiency in English leads to better salaries

  • A research study has confirmed that proficiency in English language skills affects the amount of salary paid
  • A study carried out by Euromotor International for the British council confirmed that those with higher proficiency in the language could have an increase of 25% in their salary
  • Five developing countries were selected for this research. They are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Cameroon and Rwanda.
  • "This is particularly true for professionals within a client-facing role where communication skills are vital, good English skills will help them articulate and sell their ideas better. It will also aid them in working in a multinational corporation, where they need to communicate with various nationalities," said Professional recruitment consultancy Robert Walters Malaysia country manager Sally Raj.
  • Accenture Human Resources Lead for Malaysia Chua Chai Peng noted that English is the main language used worldwide and employers are having difficulties of finding local graduates with a good command in the language.
