Due to the improvements in the SPM 2011 results, the government increased the number of recipients of the National Scholarship Programme from 30 to 50 this year.
The recipients will be getting full scholarships for their pre-university studies, as well as their first degrees at some of the world’s most renowned universities such as the UK’s Oxford and Cambridge and Harvard and MIT in the US.
This year, the government allocated RM2.12 billion to the Public Service Department (PSD) to sponsor 12,000 excellent students to pursue their first degree, both locally and internationally.
Last year, PSD received an allocation of RM1.08 billion for overseas scholarships and RM360 million for local scholarships.
