Market Demand

In the midst of poor economic climates and budget cutbacks, the demand for budget analysts will continue to rise to ensure that funds are used efficiently.  Over the past few years, government remains the leading employer for budget analysts followed by manufacturing, management services, professional, scientific and technical services, and schools.

Education

Employers generally require budget analysts to have at least a bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field, but some prefer or require a master’s degree. Strong oral and written communication skills also are essential, because budget analysts must prepare, present, and defend budget proposals to decision makers. In addition, budget analysts must be able to work under strict time constraints. Candidates with a master’s degree are expected to have the best opportunities.
